Dining should be an enjoyable experience. Eating with friends and family promotes camaraderie and a sense of community. However, some people have negative experiences with food as a result of allergies or other issues. I, Cathleen Colligan R.D. of Port Washington, NY am a dietitian who is well versed in medical applications. Many of my clients have been referred to me by their practicing physicians to inform them on how to eat properly in conjunction with their diagnosis or condition
My dietitian services include:
● Pre-Natal—Pregnancy is a time for prospective mothers to be very cognizant of what they put into their bodies. The typical hymns of avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes are just the tip of the iceberg. The unborn take environmental cues from their mother, including diet. There are epigenetic effects resulting from the type of nutrition the baby experiences through the placenta and umbilical. I can advise you on what to eat, when to eat, and how to eat to birth a healthy child!
● Food Allergy—A food allergy is a negative autoimmune response to a certain protein. In many children, this expresses itself in the form of a peanut allergy. There are of course many other allergies including shellfish, milk, soy, and wheat. Dealing with these allergies can be difficult. In addition to carrying around EpiPens, you need to be aware of labels, nutritional information, and menus. A simple plan following the guidelines that I will lay out can help you avoid dangerous foods.
